“It’s definitely being talked about,” Morgan told Conan about a potential Negan spin-off. “I think they’re thinking of a couple different ideas, but I’ve definitely had conversations about possibly continuing the story of Negan. You know, we just did the ‘Here’s Negan’ story, which is sort of the prequel [of] how Negan became this guy, and I shot that with my wife which was so cool.”In ‘Here’s Negan,’ Morgan starred alongside his real-life partner, actress Hilarie Burton, who played Negan’s terminally ill wife, Lucille. Together they showed us a new side of Negan. Instead of the vicious, wise-cracking killer introduced to us years ago, this Negan was a devoted and caring husband doing the best he could to protect his wife in a ravaged, walker-filled world. Morgan previously said the idea to tell Negan’s backstory had been in the works ever since he joined the series. “We had talked about it a hundred different ways, whether it would be a miniseries, film, or if we could somehow work it into the show,” he said. “And then when these COVID six episodes happened, as we call them, it just seemed like a decent fit to kind of go in there on its own and be a standalone.”
The final, expanded season of The Walking Dead will kick off with eight episodes, marking the “first of a massive 24-episode story arc that will bring the show’s decade-long successful run to conclusion.” According to showrunner Angela Kang, the series will feature “more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations, and our groups together in one community for the first time.”The Walking Dead’s final season will conclude in 2022, but that doesn’t mean we will be leaving its zombie-filled world anytime soon as AMC has already greenlit a spinoff series focused on Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier that is set to premiere in 2023. There’s also a new anthology series coming, titled ‘Tales of the Walking Dead,’ and a Walking Dead movie centered around Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes.Adele Ankers is a Freelance Entertainment Journalist.
