Daniil Medvedev reacts to losing to Novak Djokovic in Australian Open final

Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev acknowledged that he doesn’t like defeats after losing to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final. Djokovic, who now has 18 Grand Slams in his collection, saw off Medvedev 7-5 6-2 6-2 to win a record ninth Australian Open title on Sunday.

After losing a tight first set and failing.to serve out for a 2-0 lead in the second set, Medvedev’s game fell apart as Djokovic dominated the rest of the match to win the title. Medvedev won five matches in straight sets and one match in five sets en route to making his first Australian Open final.

“I don’t like to lose, whatever the round. He won today like I won the rest of the tournaments. In the first, I didn’t play bad,” Medvedev said, per Tennis Majors.

Medvedev admits next time he will do some things differently

“I think I went closer (from the Top 3).

If I play him again in the final, I would do things better and differently on and off the court. It wouldn’t mean I would win but that’s life of a tennis players,” Medvedev said. “When I practiced with him, he was late.

It was the only bad thing I remember. For the rest, he was super nice. We have other stories like me in his private jet to go to the David Cup. He was good for my carrer.” Medvedev made his maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open in 2019 and fell just short of winning it all as he was beaten in five sets by Rafael Nadal.

“When I finish my career, if I have 20 Slams or 0, I want to have no regret of what I achieved, it’s the main point for me,” Medvedev said. Medvedev captured the biggest title of his career last season when he won the Nitto ATP Finals.
